Image:North Sea Sea Level Risks.png
From Global Warming Art
Description
This is a topographic map designed to emphasize portions of Northern Europe around the North Sea that are near sea level and hence could potentially be vulnerable to sea level rise.
The Netherlands in particular is especially vulnerable to sea level rise because approximate half the country is already below sea level and only occupied by virtue of a series of dikes, pumps, and other flood control projects. Independent of sea level rise, the Netherlands and adjacent areas are slowing sinking as a consequence of isostatic rebound in Scandinavia and related areas.
